Ishant Sharma has breached ICC’s Level 1 code of conduct with a send-off to Dawid Malan in England’s second innings in the first Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The act has earned a demerit point and a fine of 15% of his match fee for violating the Level 1 Article 2.1.7 under ICC's constitution.

As he ran away in celebration after picking Malan’s wicket caught at gully by Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant was seen turning towards the departing batsman and yelling out loud.

After the end of day’s play, Ishant honestly admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the match referee Jeff Crowe, avoiding a formal hearing. The charge was made by the on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Tim Robinson.

According to the Level 1 Article 2.1.7, no player could provoke his/her opponent by using language, actions or gestures in an international match and its violation could carry a maximum penalty of 50% of a player’s match fee, a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, and one or two demerit points.
