Every guy within that attack has put in crucial performances, says Joe Root

England skipper Joe Root was pleased with his team's bowling performance after the Lord's Test, stating that every individual bowler delivered significant performance. India was curbed to 130 and lost by an innings and 159 runs at the second Test at Lord's to hand England a 2-0 lead in the series.

Joe Root has clarified that they will approach the coming Tests with a fierce attitude, ruthless in their endeavours despite having a 2-0 lead in the five match series. Having said that, he also mentioned that they will be careful as they are against the No.1 team which includes a number of skillful players.

Joe Root was, however, very pleased with the performances of the England bowlers, who were strongly criticised in the two match Test series England played against Pakistan.

“The really pleasing thing is we’re not relying on one individual. Every guy within that attack has put in crucial performance,” Root told the reporters.

“That would be the dream, to put in five complete performances and have five wins. But it’s important we don’t get complacent, arrogant, or look too far ahead. We’re playing against the No 1 side with some very talented players, and we have to make sure we keep looking to learn and develop."

Root mentioned that in such a situation it would be difficult to ask James Anderson and Stuart Broad to take rest and they have played a vital role in the matches so far. Despite having a lead in the series, Root has clearly mentioned that they would be relentless in their pursuit of victory.

“That’s something we will have to manage and have to take into account the workloads over the next three games. We’ll have to be quite smart with that – we don’t want them injured for long periods of time,” Root said on James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

“We’re not the finished article – we’ve got a long way to go to where we want to get to. It’s a great position to be in, 2-0 up with three to go, going into Nottingham, which is a great place for us to play,” he said.

“Yes, it (travelling) can be tough, and it has been for us previously. So, we’ve got to make sure we’re doing everything we can to continue these performances and keep making it very difficult for India. That comes with a lot of hard work and a ruthless streak within us,” Root added.

Root said that though Ben Stokes, being a significant part of the team was missed, Chris Woakes clearly filled in his role with his performance. He doesn't believe that India was any less vigorous in their attempts and England's bowling was what made the difference. Woakes managed to snatch Virat Kohli's wicket in the first innings and made 137 not out to be declared Man-of-the-Match.

“Ben is a huge part of this squad, so it’s a miss him not being here this week. But it created an opportunity for Chris to come in and perform, and boy, he didn’t disappoint, did he?”

“I don’t see any lack of fight, or lack of trying. India are doing everything they can, but from my perspective, I’m so pleased we’re bowling as well as we are. That’s what’s been the difference,” Root said.
