A three-member ad-hoc committee comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy has been formed to choose the right candidate for the role of the coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. The post became vacant after Ramesh Powar’s stint as the interim coach ended last month.

The Board of Control of Cricket for India(BCCI) has today announced the formation of a three-member ad-hoc committee to conduct the interview for the role of the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team. The interview has been expected to take place on December 20 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy are the three people chosen by the board to be the judge.

As the interim coach, Ramesh Powar’s tenure ended on a pretty controversial note. Even though Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji threw their weight behind Powar's return as the coach of the women’s team, at least till the upcoming New Zealand series, CoA chief Vinod Rai has ruled out such a move.

Earlier last month, Powar exited the Indian women’s administration after Indian women’s team ODI captain Mithali Raj accused the coach of humiliating and ignoring her before dropping her for the ICC Women’s World T20 semi-final against England. India went on to lose the match.

Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa, Manoj Prabhakar of India, and Dimitri Mascarenhas of England are the few former cricketers who have reportedly applied for the position so far.
