Ever since the inception of T20 cricket, fans have seen some extraordinary displays from batsmen, bowlers and particularly the fielders. Yesterday, it was 37-year-old Shahid Afridi who pulled off a stunning one-handed catch at the boundary to leave the entire stadium in pure disbelief and amazement.

Chasing a target of 150, handed by the Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators appeared to be in a spot of bother at the 12th over mark. With half of their batting lineup back in the dressing room, the only solace that was on offer for them was the fact that Umar Amin was still at the crease playing at a run a ball. With 80 runs required off 46 balls, Amin knew that he had to go for it and it appeared that he had succeeded when he looked to have timed a Mohammad Irfan ball to perfection.

After seeing a length ball, Amin attempted to time the ball right back over the bowler’s head and as the ball kept gaining height, it looked like it was going to go over the ropes. However, it was not meant to be. Afridi came off his position at wide long off and made up the ground as quickly as his 37-year-old legs could. On getting there, he realized that he was still short and with an extended hand, somehow, managed to catch the ball.

However, the drama wasn’t done. Since he did not have his feet set properly, he started going off the field of play. But the experienced all-rounder threw the ball up in the air, went over the ropes and came back in to complete the catch. Even though the umpires sent the decision upstairs, there was no way it was going to be changed. With the wicket, the result was just a formality and the Kings won the game by 19 runs.
