ICC ODI rankings | Kuldeep Yadav, Joe Root move up the list after recent ODI series
Kuldeep Yadav, who got career-best figures of 6/25 and 3/68 against England in ODI series, and English batsman Joe Root, who amassed two tons, were the standout names in the recent ICC ODI rankings update. Virat Kohli kept his place as number one ODI batsman intact with a career-best rating of 911.
The Indian cricket team fell to their first ODI series defeat since January 2016 as England beat the visitors by eight wickets to win the third and final match and win the series by a margin of 2-1. Kohli’s men won the initial match but were beaten in two consecutive games at the back an all-round performance from the hosts.
One of England's standout performers with the bat was top-order batsman - Joe Root, who returned to his very best as he smashed two tons in three matches, the last of which came in yesterday’s ODI win over India. His scores of 113 and 100* took him to number two in the ODI rankings which was a jump of four spots. Root averaged a staggering 216 in the three-match series while he also registered 818 rating points.
India captain, Kohli, however, kept his position at the top of the table after reaching scores of 75, 45 and 71 across the three matches that helped him accumulate a total of 191 runs at an average of 63.66. This helped the 29-year old batsman record a career-best rating of 911 and hold on to the number one spot. Pakistan batsman Babar Azam moved down one spot to third, while currently banned David Warner slipped two spots to fifth on the list. Rohit Sharma, however, retained the number four spot with a match-winning hit of 137* in the first ODI.
Amongst the bowlers, there was no change recorded in the top five spots of the list which comprised of Jasprit Bumrah, Rashid Khan, Hasan Ali, Trent Boult and Josh Hazlewood. However, Indian wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav jumped six spots up to the sixth position after a stunning performance in England. Although the 23-year-old did not get the desired result in the third ODI, he still managed to take nine wickets across the three games. The Indian chinaman bowler ended the series with 684 rating points, which was a career-high for him.
England leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who managed to leave Kohli stunned yesterday, claimed six wickets in the three games, and the 3/49 in the final fixture helped him record a career-high rating of 681 points.
