Steve Smith and David Warner picked to play in Global T20 Canada
Steve Smith and David Warner, who were banned from international cricket for their involvement in tampering scandal in South Africa, have been drafted for the Global T20 Canada. Smith was already announced as a marquee player for the league, while Warner was picked in the third round of the draft.
David Warner and Steve Smith were sacked from the Australian team after the third Test against South Africa in March and later accepted a 12-month ban by Cricket Australia for their role in the ball-tampering scandal that shocked the cricketing world. Cameron Bancroft was also caught in the saga and was banned for 9 months.
Disgraced Australia stars Steve Smith and David Warner, who are serving a 12 months ban, were drafted on Sunday for the Global T20 Canada event starting June 28. Smith was already been announced as a marquee player for the inaugural edition of the event while Warner was selected in the third round of the draft by the Winnipeg Hawks, who took West Indies' Dwayne Bravo and South African left-hander David Miller in the first and second rounds.
Smith was taken in the second round by the Toronto Nationals, where he would share the dressing room with West Indian star Darren Sammy and Kieron Pollard.
The inaugural tournament would feature teams from Edmonton, Montreal and Vancouver, along with a Caribbean side. The tournament would be played between June 28 and July 15, at Maple Leafe Cricket Club near Toronto.
