Dinesh Karthik believes Indian spinners are far ahead in experience than Afghanistan's
Replying to Afghanistan's captain Asghar Stanikzai, who claimed that they have better spinners than India, Dinesh Karthik has said that Indian spinners are far more experienced that Afghanistan's. He also stated that value of experience can't be undermined in the upcoming Test against Afghanistan.
Despite praising the nascent achievements of Afghanistan as an international cricket team, Karthik has stated that Indian spinners will be a lot more experienced than their counterparts and have the ability to change the course of the game.
“Clearly all their spinners put together wouldn't have played that many matches that (a young) Kuldeep Yadav (24 first-class matches) would have played in a four-day cricket,” said Karthik, quoted PTI.
If compared by their stats of the aggregate of 11 four day matches played by their ace spinners, Rashid Khan (4), Zahir Khan (7), and Zardan (0), and Kuldeep Yadav stood at an advantage of 13 matches, having played 24 first class games including two Test matches. Karthik has also been of the opinion that experience plays a major role in shaping out matches. Karthik has stated that bowlers of Afghanistan would be a better version in the next Test match than they are right now.
“Experience at the end of the day has a lot of value as you saw with CSK in IPL. I am very sure that they(Afghanistan) would be better bowlers by the start of the next Test match than what they are now,” Karthik said.
Karthik has appreciated the spirit of Afghanistan players as he felt they have flourished themselves in conditions of turmoil. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman have been striking players in the IPL. Karthik also stated that it can serve as motivation for many.
“You have to give them credit. They are trying to beat all the odds with little infrastructure that they have got. I hope they get to play a lot of Test Cricket. In two years, they have had household names (like Rashid). Not only are they competing in shorter formats but are also winning series,” Karthik appreciated Afghanistan's team.
