Putting an end to speculation about his fitness, Rohit Sharma has cleared the mandatory YoYo test today and then lashed out at his critics, who questioned his exemption from the June 15 test. He had taken permission to be exempted from the fitness test as he had a sponsor commitment in Russia.

Last week, skipper Virat Kohli and veteran MS Dhoni along with other UK-bound limited overs specialists had cleared the Yo-Yo Test. Ambati Rayudu was the only one who failed the test and there were many questions raised about the notable absence of Rohit Sharma on that day. There was speculation that Sharma had failed the test and questions were raised over his absence. However, Sharma had sought exemption from the BCCI as he had a sponsor commitment in Russia. BCCI GM of Cricket Operations, Saba Karim, had informed PTI that it wasn’t mandatory for him to appear on the scheduled date as he had taken permission in advance.

On Wednesday, Sharma put an end to all the speculations by clearing the Yo-Yo test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and later took to Twitter to hit back at the critics who questioned his absence.

The BCCI had kept Ajinkya Rahane on stand-by in case Sharma failed to achieve the qualifying mark of 16.1. In the recent past, senior pacer Mohammed Shami and Rayudu had failed the Yo-Yo test and lost their place in the side. Talented Sanju Samson was also dropped from the A tour of England after he failed to clear the mark.

The Indian team will depart for England tour from Delhi on June 23.
