VIDEO | Rishabh Pant sends Kieron Pollard over long-on with just his right hand
Despite the third T20I in Chennai being absolutely inconsequential for the Indian side, for some underperforming players, this match had all the consequences in the world for their career. One of them was Rishabh Pant, who made the most of his chance and this shot sumed that up aptly.
With Rohit Sharma getting dismissed as early as in the third over reducing India to 13/1, Pant had a fair idea that he would be needed to play a significant role in a tricky chase of 182 runs. KL Rahul soon returned to the pavilion just three overs later giving India the start they needed and in came Pant. He looked calmer than normal and the way he played his first ball for a quick single was in a hint of things to come.
Blamed for giving away his wickets cheaply, Pant was the epitome of patience today. He took as many as eight balls to open his hands before he decided to cross-bat Braithwaite’s ball over his head. Though it didn’t promise a half-century that time, we were surely looking at a different and more confident Pant.
He reached his peak as the game progressed and his supreme level of confidence was evident only in the 13 over when facing Pollard, the southpaw slogged him for a huge six. Pollard had bowled a slower full-length delivery on the off-stump but Pant had read it early. In his unique batting style, he got his bat down and released only his bottom hand to pick it over wide long-on for a six. It was all just one hand.
