India vs England | Alastair Cook will be hugely missed in dressing room, believes Paul Farbrace

Cook is playing his last Test match at The Oval and the English team will certainly want him to do well in the last game of the series against the Indians. With an experience of 160 Tests, Cook adds a lot to the English team. With Cook scoring an impressive 71 in the first innings, the English coach hopes that Cook can end his final international game with a century.

“It’d be fantastic, wouldn’t it, if he was to get to a hundred? It’d be absolutely brilliant. I think he’s just enjoying milking all the applause he’s getting. I think it’s just driving him on to bat as long as he possibly can,” Farbrace said during the press conference after Day 3. 

“As much as we’re going to miss his runs and his catches, I think the calming influence he has among the team, the staff, everybody, is something we’ll all miss when he’s not in the dressing-room.”

India added 32 runs in their last wicket partnership with Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah at the crease. Both of them troubled the English bowlers who found it difficult to break the stand. The Indians managed to reduce the first innings lead to 40 and making a comeback into the Indian Test side the all-rounder scored unbeaten 86 to consolidate the Indian innings.

“It was very frustrating. There was a chance dropped before that last partnership got going but to be fair to Jadeja, he played magnificently well. I think he’s an exceptional cricketer, a dangerous cricketer - with bat, ball and in the field - and I think we would probably be reasonably happy that he’s only just played in that last game," the England assistant coach added.
