IPL 2019 | I am alright with my captaincy, says Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer, the Delhi Capitals skipper, has stated that he is satisfied with his captaincy and wants to continue with the same. The DC batting line-up has seen collapses way too frequently but the captain dismissed all worries with respect to the same and suggested the team to move on.
The Delhi Capitals had lost their previous two games coming into the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, but the Delhi Capitals managed to put up a clinical performance with the ball to restrict RCB at 149. Skipper Shreyas Iyer, who took Delhi over after Gautam Gambhir opted out in the previous edition, held his nerves to take his team through the chase. He was satisfied with his captaincy and was positive that the other batsmen will step up after this victory.
“I’m really positive the boys will come back positively. Big satisfaction when you win a game. I’m doing alright as a captain, want to maintain it,” said Shreyas Iyer, at the post match presentation, reported PTI.
In a similar fashion to their previous three games, the DC batsmen once again stumbled with the bat as the skipper held one end and scored 67 off 50 balls, before being dismissed five runs short of the target. However, the skipper was not worried about the frequent batting collapses and recommended that the team moves on.
“The collapse isn’t worrying, but we need to think further moving on. We will think about such areas we can work on,” stated the 24 year old.
The M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore has always been a batting paradise and even in the previous match, over 400 runs were scored here. But this time, the story was different, as the pitch was slow, quite in contrast to the previous matches. The skipper also shared his strategy with respect to playing on this surface.
“Tough pitch to bat on, wanted to play positively. I bank a lot on my cut-shots, and I need to wait for those balls to play them. Wanted to maneuver the ball, and keep the singles,” the right hander explained.
Kagiso Rabada scalped three wickets, including that of Virat Kohli’s in the 17th over, ensuring that the RCB fail to accelerate in the end. The South African pacer ended up with four wickets and gave away a meagre 21 runs in his quota of four overs. Iyer was of the opinion that his bowlers, especially Rabada, bowled extremely well to restrict RCB to an under par score.
“I think they were 10-15 runs less on this wicket, it was two-paced, and very happy how Rabada bowled in the last two overs. Really good for the team,” he signed off.
The Delhi Capitals will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, on April 12.
