IPL 2019 | It was a massive boost for Mumbai Indians that MS Dhoni wasn't around, says Rohit Sharma
After Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings on Friday, Rohit Sharma has come out to say that it was a massive boost for his team as MS Dhoni was not around in the match. Rohit, who himself scored a fifty in the game, also said that he was not worried about his recent form in the league.
Mumbai Indians thrashed Chennai Super Kings in the 44th match of the 12th edition of Indian Premier League. It is the second win for MI against CSK this season. After the amazing win against the home side at the Chidambaram Stadium, MI Skipper Rohit Sharma feels that it was a massive boost for his team that MS Dhoni was not around. The CSK unit missed the services of their captain Dhoni who was ruled out with an illness.
“It was a massive boost that MSD wasn't around. Because his presence does a lot for their team. When you don't have Dhoni when they're chasing the score, then it becomes difficult for them. I'm sure their presence was missed by CSK. But he was sick, it's not in his control either. But as I said, coming here and winning here isn't supposed to be easy," Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation ceremony, reported by IndiaToday.
With this terrible defeat against MI, CSK registered their fourth loss in the season and second against the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai, on the other hand, have consolidated their head-to-head record against Chennai Super Kings with their 16th victory in 28 matches. Skipper Rohit, who has played 183 matches so far with 4788 runs maintaining an average of 31.71, can’t do his part for his team in this IPL season, but the swashbuckling opener made a comeback in yesterday’s match by scoring 67 runs off 48 balls to take his team to a good total batting first.
"At no point, I was worried about my form because I was hitting the ball well. I knew the day will come, and I guess today was the day," the 32-year-old said.
With this 46-runs victory against CSK, MI have propelled to the second place in the points table by replacing Delhi Capitals. With more teams crowded to enter into the play-offs, the Mumbai lad feels that the team must do their best in the upcoming matches.
"We're not yet in the playoffs, we know how quickly the tables can turn, so we need to play well against KKR and Sunrisers. We don't want to complicate things, we are clear as a team on what we want to execute. It won't pay off every day, but the boys have been raising their hands at different occasions," Rohit concluded.
