Steve Smith has stated that he never doubted his credentials but after having scored twin centuries in a single match, he was pretty happy about his abilities. The former Aussie captain has further added that not achieving the same feat in the past made his efforts a bit more special.

Steve Smith is regarded as one of the best Test batsmen of all time and since the ‘sandpaper gate’ he’s also one of the most talked-about cricketers. That meant fans and critics had their eyes set on Smith who was making a comeback to his format after a year of ban. On his comeback, he re-established himself as a giant in the first Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston. Even during the tough times, the former captain didn’t doubt his ability and didn't lose hopes of materializing a “dream comeback” to Test cricket.

After his 144 in the first innings bailed Australia out of a difficult situation of 122/8 and gave the team a decent total of 284 in the first innings, he once again single-handedly sailed the ship for his team and made 142 in the second innings as Australia 487/7 declared on Sunday. Matthew Wade stood beside Smith scoring 110 on the fourth day as well, and that meant Australia set England an imposing target of 398.

“I’ve never doubted my ability. But, it’s kind of a dream comeback in a way. To be able to score two hundreds in a match, in the first Ashes match, it’s something I have never done in any form of cricket before in my life. It’s incredibly special,” Smith was quoted saying by Sky Sports.

“It feels like Christmas morning every morning getting to come and do this,” Smith concluded by cherishing his time back into playing his favourite format.

England were on 13/0 at Stumps Day 4, with openers Jason Roy and Rory Burns-who scored a splendid 133 in the first innings- fighting it out for the team.
