Ashes 2019 | Rain plays spoilsport as Day 1 of Lord's Test abandoned without play

The unpredictability of the English weather ensured that it made a timely visit as Day 1 of the second Test at Lord's was called off without a single ball bowled. All eyes were on England and Australia ahead of what promised to be an electrifying contest, but unfortunately, persistent heavy showers made sure that the players never got a chance to step on the field. 

After the match was initially delayed by showers, good news emerged out of London post-lunch as the umpires declared 3.30 PM local time as the official start time, with 48 overs set to be bowled on the day. English cricketer Chris Jordan provided tearaway quick Jofra Archer with his Test cap, and it looked like we were all set to kick-start the contest. However, just on the verge of the commencement of the match, heavy rains once again returned, forcing the umpires to call off play for the day.

Despite the entirety of the day getting washed out, there won't be an early start on Day 2, with an extra 30 mins added towards the end of each of the remaining four days to make up for the lost time.
