Twitter reacts to Rohit Sharma transitioning from Jonty Rhodes to Saeed Ajmal in span of three balls
Be it leadership, doing wonders with the bat or even fielding, Rohit Sharma is a genuine all-rounder. However, what the Indian vice-captain pulled off during the first T20I proceedings between India and West Indies was rather shocking as Rohit went from hero to zero in the blink of an eye.
West Indies came out of their shell, which had kept them from scoring as big as they usually do in T20Is, and smashed India as well as they could. Doing the initial honours was opener Evin Lewis, who scored 40 off just 17, and Shimron Hetmyer and Kieron Pollard followed his lead.
By the time the death overs commenced, the Windies had put 144/3 on the board and that’s when all the drama took place. As Hetmyer hit a straight one towards the long on, Washingston Sundar, the man there, dropped the catch, his second in a span of two overs, while sliding in to take the catch near the boundary. However, the ball did not travel to the ropes thanks to Rohit Sharma who jumped in and saved a boundary.
On the following delivery, with Pollard on strike, Rohit, at long on, slipped for a microsecond before he pulled himself back and bagged a Jonty Rhodes-like one-handed catch. However, he eventually had to release it in order to save the boundary. His fielding was highly lauded by his mates which made what followed even worse.
Pollard was already in the zone and had no intention of slowing down and decided to go for a big hit again. This time, however, he hammered it in the same direction where Rohit stood waiting for a simple catch. But after his heroics on the last ball, this time, the Indian vice skipper let the ball go through his hands and into the stands. What made things worse was the fact that Pollard added another six on the very next ball en route to guiding his side to a very competitive 207 in their allotted twenty overs.
This is how it happened!
