Brian Lara appreciated the West Indian Cricket Board's decision to appoint Kieron Pollard as captain and believes that the all-rounder has the experience to lead the side to the World Cup defence. Further, Lara added that it is going to be an uphill task for Pollard to lead this side to victories.

Brian Lara, ahead of West Indies tour of India, appreciated the Windies cricketing board's decision to appoint Kieron Pollard as the T20 skipper amidst their struggles. Lara feels that Pollard has the right profile and confidence to lead the side ahead of the crucial 2020 T20 World Cup.

Despite being dropped from the squad multiple times in the past years, Pollard has made the right noise with his performance in the T20 leagues across the world making his comeback into the side a possibility. Further, the way Pollard skippered the Mumbai Indians side in the recent IPL boosted his CV to become the Windies skipper.

“There is a World Cup in under 12 months and you are looking for the right person, someone who can hit the ground running. He has the experience to do so. It is a good decision, but it is still going to be an uphill battle,” said Lara during his time in India, reported Hindu.

Further, Lara added that the way Pollard has gained experience from playing in T20 leagues all over the world automatically made him the right person to turn to for the job. However, he was coy about Windies’ opportunity of winning the T20I series against India in the sub-continent.

“Over a period of time, he may not have represented the West Indies may not be much, but he has played all around the world in different leagues. He has gained a lot of respect from the opposition. I didn’t see it as a bad decision,” he concluded.
