India all-rounder Krunal Pandya heaped praise on counterpart Tim Seifert who helped the Kiwis register their first win in the three-match T20I series in Wellington on Wednesday. The right-handed opener scored a blistering 43-ball 84 to guide Kane Williamson & Co. to a well-deserved win.
Kane Williamson-led New Zealand looked like a team with a mission as they made their way to a comfortable 80-run victory against India in the opening game of the three-match T20I series on Wednesday. The hosts’ took a 1-0 lead against Rohit Sharma & Co. courtesy of a brilliant all-round performance with bat and ball. Tim Seifert, who was promoted up the order to open the innings, played a stunning knock of 84 from just 23 deliveries to take the home team to a total of 218 from 20 overs.
Krunal Pandya, who along with brother Hardik Pandya became the third Indian brother duo (after Mohinder and Surinder Amarnath and Irfan and Yusuf Pathan) to play for the national team, heaped praise on Seifert who he has played against while he was part of India A.
“I played against Seifert in the India A games when we were here last year. He scored runs against us in the first game that time as well. He is a good player and he proved it to us once again,” Krunal said at a post-match conference, reported News 18.
The Indian all-rounder opined that the Indian bowling attack were not up to the mark and leaked a lot of runs. This was India’s third defeat in three limited-overs matches in the absence of Virat Kohli.
“I guess when you are chasing over 200 runs it’s not that easy. Initially, we gave away too many runs and kept leaking runs in the middle overs as well. So obviously when it comes to chasing, it was difficult to chase 219 no matter how the wicket is. Scoreboard pressure is there and batsmen who is batting is always looking for fours and sixes.
“We have all that any team needs to do well in T20 — batting depth and bowling options. It was one of those bad days but we have to learn from mistakes and don’t repeat them,” Krunal concluded.
