Cricket is not the most important thing in life, states Virat Kohli
Indian captain Virat Kohli has asserted that for him cricket is not the most important thing in life and the family will be the priority for him, eight years down the line. Kohli recently led India to a 2-1 series win in ODIs against Australia after scripting a historic Test series win Down Under.
With Kohli in the form of his life, many experts have often compared him to Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and the debate has only grown day by day. The Test and ODI series win in Australia and Kohli's contribution in them have drawn praises from everywhere.
His recently scored 39th ODI hundred has taken his international tons to a whopping 64 with Michael Clarke calling him the best ODI batsman. However, the fastest Indian batsman to get to 10,000 ODI runs by overtaking Tendulkar has been of the opinion that after eight years, his family would be his priority. He also said that cricket would just be a part of his life but not the most important thing.
“8 years down the line, priority would be family. Priority would be myself, Anushka and our family by then. Cricket would obviously be a part of my life always but I think family should be priority at all times because nothing is bigger than life. Cricket is a part of life, nothing should be bigger than life,” Kohli said on his Mobile Application - Virat Kohli App, reported Hindustan Times.
“I know people take life too seriously and be like... ‘if you don’t take cricket too seriously, then you’re not committed enough’. I don’t believe in all that. The larger picture always has to be life because whatever happens and may happen, you always come back home. So I think the priority will be family, should be family. Cricket will be a very special part of my life, but it’s not the most important thing in life is the way I see it. I am blessed to be able to do it right now, it has to end one day. Eight years down the line, I think I will be totally focused on my family."
India would now be playing a five-match ODI series against New Zealand starting from January 23 which will be followed by three T20Is.
