ICC World Cup 2019 | PAK-SL game called off due to rain and wet outfield in Bristol
After hours of downpour in Bristol, the umpires decided to call off the game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, thus one point each for both the teams. After the split point game, Sri Lanka are up to third on the points table thanks to their superior net run rate while Pakistan are at the fourth spot.
Rain in Bristol didn’t relent until local time 3 PM and with 4:19 PM in English time being the last for a possible 20-over game, it became increasingly difficult for the game to begin. The outfield near the boundary seemed fine but the pitch was bit dampened and the inner circle had some glaring wet spots.
Both the umpires eventually came out for inspection at local time 5:15 but they found out that the field is not ready for the game to happen and in some time, they decided to abandon the game. It also ensured that the teams only get one point each. Pakistan, considering the head-to-head record, which stands at a 7-0 against the Lankans and the form of their current players, would have backed themselves to take two points.
After getting a point each, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will temporarily attain the 3rd and 4th spots respectively for the time being but that will change after tomorrow’s double-header.
