Dawlat Zardan is one of the most experienced players in Afghanistan side and in the time of despair, he was supposed to take the onus on his shoulder. Today, however, was different as Zardan looked out of sorts and in search of a one-handed stunner, he left the ball go for a boundary.

Standing at the last chance saloon, Afghanistan couldn’t have stepped a foot wrong in their game against England and the last thing that their fans wanted from the game was an uninspiring fielding display from their senior players. However, as things stand at the moment, Afghanistan beat West Indies’ standard of fielding and degraded to another level. Zardan’s catch drop would act as the best example.

On the second ball of the 36th over, Rashid Khan bowled a little flatter delivery to which Morgan went down on his knees and attempted a slog-sweep with the turn. The pace of the ball and the angled bat resulted in the ball rising too far into the sky and the distance was not a lot too. Had Dawlat Zardan given his best, it would have become a simple catch.

However, as MS Dhoni explained once in his movie promotion, the high catches do that to you and one may lose concentration. Like exactly, Zardan caught with many minds and instead of going down the ball, he was hobbing near the boundary. When the ball almost reached him, he stretched his right hand in the direction of the ball, but by then, things had gone out of hand. The ball moved past deep mid-wicket for a boundary.
