IPL 2019 | KKR includes KC Cariappa in place of injured Shivam Mavi
Kolkata Knight Riders have called KC Cariappa for the upcoming 12th season of the Indian Premier League which will start from March 23 to replace injured Shivam Mavi. The Kolkata team had earlier included Sandeep Warrier in place of Kamlesh Nagarkoti in the squad before the start of the league.
As Kolkata will miss the services of two young pacers – Mavi and Nagarkoti in the upcoming season, they have roped in a pacer and a spinner in place of the pace duo. Kerala pacer Warrier had earlier joined the team a few days back and now they have announced the signing of Karnataka leggie Cariappa. Nagarkoti failed to play in the 11th season of the IPL because of a foot injury and is sustaining a back injury since then while his U-19 teammate Mavi is having a low-stress back fracture and will not be able to represent the Knight Riders this season.
The spinner had made his IPL debut for the KKR side back in 2015 and has also played for the Kings XI Punjab in the cash-rich league. From 10 IPL matches in his career, Cariappa has claimed eight wickets but his economy rate is slightly on the higher side i.e. close to 10. He recently played a crucial role in helping his state team Karnataka win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the first time in the history. The leggie picked up 10 wickets at an average of 20.60 in the domestic T20 tournament.
The Kolkata team will start their campaign in the 2019 edition of the league when they will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens on March 24.
