IPL 2019 | No change in Sunrisers Hyderabad leadership for season 12, reveals VVS Laxman
VVS Laxman has clarified that despite David Warner’s return to the team, the Sunrisers Hyderabad will continue with the same leadership roles in the upcoming IPL like the last year. In Warner’s absence in 2018, Kane Williamson was the skipper of the team with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as his deputy.
As Warner missed the last season of the IPL because of the one-year ban following sandpapergate in South Africa last year, the SRH management had handed over the captaincy responsibilities to Williamson. Meanwhile, the Aussie opener is back in the scheme of things for the Hyderabad side for the 12th edition of the league but Laxman, who is the mentor of Hyderabad, has said that the team will continue with last year’s set up.
"Kane is an outstanding batsman and also a highly respected international player. He has stepped in for us last year and has shown good leadership qualities," Laxman told TOI.
“We are very proud of what Warner has achieved for the Sunrisers. He's one of our premier batsmen. Personally, I felt the punishment was not right since I have seen him from close quarters. I am sure that he would continue to contribute for Sunrisers."
Coached by Tom Moody, the Hyderabad-based franchise, apart from Bhuvneshwar, Williamson and Warner, have some senior players in the team like Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammed Nabi who have a fair bit of experience in international cricket. SRH had earlier traded Shikhar Dhawan to the Delhi Capitals for Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, and Shahbaz Nadeem.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening battle of the league at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
