RR vs KXIP | Legends and pundits react to R Ashwin mankading Jos Buttler
The match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals is in the headlines after R Ashwin controversially dismissed Jos Buttler by dislodging the bails at non-striker's end during his run-up. Cricketing legends took the issue to Twitter and expressed their opinions on Ashwin mankiding Buttler.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Buttler were the centre of attention in yesterday's IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab as Punjab's captain Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Rajasthan's well-settled batsman Jos Buttler by mankading him. Ashwin paused during his action and removed the bails from the non-strikers end. Jos butler was left stunned and angry. The on-field umpire went upstairs and on referring with the third umpire the decision came out as a disappointment for Jos Buttler. Cricketing legends from all over the world were left bemused and shared their opinions on Twitter.
Here are the top tweets:
It’s within the laws of the game but Jos Butler should have been warned by Ashwin before that. Very Surprised ! Remember Ashwin doing the same in an international game where Sehwag withdrew the appeal.

My final point on this. Ashwin ran Buttler out. It went to the 3rd umpire who is on the ICC Elite panel. He looked at the replays & said the non-striker was out. He is the custodian of the laws & playing conditions. So irrespective of what Ashwin did, it was the umpire's decision

Ashwin, that’s shocking behaviour! Very disappointed to see that.

I would say to all India ex players/Pundits who are supportive of what R Ashwin did ... If @imVkohli was Batting would you be so supportive !!??? #NightAll #IPL #OnON

Ashwin was completely within his rights to dismiss butler there. Don’t understand how Spirit of Cricket can be questioned. How many times have u seen a batsman wait for Umpires decision when he knew he was out? #RRvKXIP #IPL

RR was crusing towards victory before butler got out thru #Mankading. What do u guys think about the whole incident in today’s game???

How is getting an advantage by starting early by the batsman be in the 'spirit of the game'? BTW this is not the first time this has happened with Jos Butler #RRvKXIP

Apropos Butler’s controversial run out by Ashwin, let’s be clear. Not obligatory for bowler to caution non-striker. Recent ICC review on subject emphasised this to stop batsmen from taking advantage. But it remains an uncool thing to see without the warning

No rules were broken ... but just not sure if Butler has gained that much distance at the other end... the bat had barely dragged out that too perhaps when Butler thought the ball’s being delivered .. #RRvKXIP

It’s not Ashwin’s fault , it’s not Butlers fault , its third umpire’s fault ! He has to check whether Butler is in or out of crease at the point when Ashwin delivers the ball. He has to use geometry compass box to find that out and then give decision :)

FYI.. I am old school.. I would not have done it.. just mention to Butler .. hey champ.. stop crimping! #SelectDugout @StarSportsIndia

My thoughts on the Mankad. Its not cheating, it’s not against the spirit as it’s in the rules you can do it. Personally I would warn someone if I was to do it but the batsman should also play fair by staying behind the crease. It’s a bit like the underarm serve in tennis right??

So disappointed in @ashwinravi99 as a Captain & as a person. All captains sign the #IPL wall & agree to play in the spirit of the game. RA had no intention of delivering the ball - so it should have been called a dead ball. Over to u BCCI - this a not a good look for the #IPL

Well the fair play award isn’t going to Mohali this year....
— Sam Billings (@sambillings) March 25, 2019
He ain’t winning any spirit of cricket awards is old ashwin

I can’t believe what I’m seeing!! @IPL Terrible example to set for young kids coming through. In time I think Ashwin will regret that.

I support every bowler who does it.Whether that bowler is English or from the Arctic, since every1 is justifying the non striker, might as well they stand at the half way mark of the pitch before the ball is released, can't ratify wrong just coz batsmen hav been doing it 4 too long https://t.co/uZC6DjuYMO

Law is above The Mythical Spirit of The Game. Don’t fret. Don’t frown. #Ashwin #Buttler #RRvKXIP #IPL
