VIDEO | Kieron Pollard takes guard off pitch to complaint against umpiring call
Kieron Pollard has always employed some of the most unorthodox methods so as to showcase his dissent, and today he pulled off another controversial one. After umpire Nitin Menon failed to spot a clear wide ball, Pollard "took a wide stance" and eventually pulled himself away to show his displeasure.
When Deepak Chahar dismissed Rahul Chahar on the fourth delivery of the 19th over, the game was still in Mumbai’s control and they were primed for at least 160 runs in the first innings. However, the dismissal made Pollard don Dhoni's shoe and he tried to keep the strike for himself as often as possible. While the runs were hard to come by, Pollard was obviously disappointed and as a result, and to add insult to injury, umpire Nitin Menon didn’t signal a wide when it was clearly a wide.
Pollard objected to that call by throwing his bat in the air, but he didn’t give any look at the umpire nor did he react in an aggressive manner. Probably, he was waiting for the act that he actually pulled off on the very next delivery.
Pollard, to object the call, took his stance on the tramline and when Bravo came to bowl the next ball, he instantly moved away from his position almost in a dismissive manner. That angered the umpire as he walked towards the Mumbai Indians vice-captain and asked what was happening and why he shouldn’t do that. Pollard though didn’t pay heed to the comments and walked with a swagger that is natural to him.
