VIDEO | Shardul Thakur gives wild send-off to Quinton de Kock before MS Dhoni completes catch

Shardul Thakur hasn’t been in the best form in this IPL, but he started in a terrific manner by dismissing Quinton de Kock in his second over. However, the highlight package would definitely be the way he celebrated - a finger send-off to de Kock - even before MS Dhoni grabbed the catch.

One of the reasons why MS Dhoni is so unpredictable is because of the fact that he marshalls his resources in a very efficient manner. Even after Deepak Chahar was gone for 20 runs in one over, mostly by Quinton de Kock, Shardul Thakur was employed into the attack and he dismissed the South African to bring a lot of cheers to CSK fans.

On the penultimate ball of the fifth over, Thakur bowled a short ball right on the South African’s body against which de Kock wanted to pull it. The variable bounce that came with the ball also hurried de Kock as the pull resulted in a top-edge. It was as simple a top-edge as it could ever get and considering MS Dhoni was behind the stumps, it was even simpler.

However, a catch was still to be taken and every batsman, with each drop of sweat on the body, would hope that there will be a dropped catch. But Thakur knew his captain better and even before MS Dhoni could come around and move to his right to take one of the easiest catches of all-time, Thakur started celebrating wildly.

For reasons only known to him, he gave a wild send-off to the South African and though MS Dhoni went on to take the catch, Thakur’s reaction against a player representing his home city didn’t cover him in good light. Even umpire Ian Gould asked the pacer to tame down and carry on with the game. The best part of the event, however, was an embarrassing Thakur smiling when he saw the act was replayed on the big screen.
