IPL 2020 | RCB cannot keep relying on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to win matches, reckons Moeen Ali

Royal Challengers Bangalore have undoubtedly been the most underperforming team in the Indian Premier League history given the amount of talent they possess and it has literally been Déjà vu for the Bengaluru franchise who have been faltering season after season in similar fashion.

Even with the likes of their flamboyant skipper Virat Kohli, game-changer AB de Villiers, match winner Yuzvendra Chahal and several other T20 superstars in the team, the side is yet to win the tournament since its conception in 2008 and Moeen Ali feels that it has something to do with the team's mindset. 

The English all-rounder, who is one of the two foreign players to be retained by the side, opined that the team needs to start the next season strongly to set the tone right from the word go. He also urged the team to be brave while playing at the Chinnaswamy, their home ground, as the stadium suits both their batsmen and their pacers, thanks to it being both pacy and small.

"We need a good start. I think we always start slowly. We need to be brave, especially at home because the wicket in Bengaluru is very good. The boundaries are small over there and it's very daunting for the bowlers," TOI quoted Moeen.

"We cannot keep relying on Virat and AB de Villiers to win us games. Batters like myself and whomsoever is coming in, have to step up and bat well," he added.

RCB released as many as 12 players in the trade window of the cash rich tournament, the most among the eight franchises, including Dale Steyn, their mid season replacement. The list of released players also included some big names like Marcus Stoinis, Tim Southee, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Colin de Grandhomme.
