Ashes 2019 | Our players believe they're good enough to save the game, states Trevor Bayliss

Day 5 at Old Trafford will be judgment day for the English, as despite Ben Stokes' heroics at Headingley, it all but looks a sure shot win for the Aussies, who would be leaving Manchester with the coveted urn. Having lost two of their better batsmen - Joe Root and Rory Burns - late on Day 4, England now face an impossible task of having to bat out 90 overs on Day 5 on an ever-so-deteriorating pitch in order to keep their Ashes hopes alive. 

However, coach Trevor Bayliss is hopeful of his team pulling off the impossible for the second match running and has stated that the players believe that they can do the job. 

"It's a big challenge but we've got two guys out there who are very good players and we've certainly got some players in the sheds who can make hundreds. It'll take a couple of our guys to make good hundreds but, as we saw in the last Test, anything is possible," Bayliss told reporters in the post-match press conference, reported Sky Sports.

"I'm always positive, I think we can do it. We've had a chat in the changing room, we're certainly not going out thinking it's all over. They believe they are good enough to bat for 98 overs and save the game," he added.

Bayliss also said that his team will draw inspiration from the miraculous win at Headingley, where England, against all odds, chased down an impossible target of 359 thanks to the heroics of Stokes. While admitting that the task at hand is a difficult one, the England coach asserted that his team will take the field believing that they can do the job.

"It (Headingley) probably gives the rest of the guys belief, that if one guy can do it someone else can do it as well.

"We've already spoken about who is going to put their hand up and be the hero tomorrow. We know it is going to be hard work, but we're going out there with the aim to do that," he signed off.
