VIDEO | Jonny Bairstow pulls off “fake fielding” in a desperate move to run Steve Smith out

After Jofra Archer got the better of Marnus Labuschagne on the second delivery of the 30th over, England breathed a sigh of relief for the simple fact that what the latter had done in the ongoing series. With Matthew Wade being on strike, Archer bowled a full delivery, trying to lure him to attack that had also resulted in the downfall of batsmen like David Warner. 

As Wade found the ball on his slot, he punched it past the bowler and started running in hard for that. The duo was very agile in their running and looked in course to complete three easy runs. However, they had to run in desperately for the third run and Smith was on his course to the danger end. 

After collecting the ball, the fielder, instead of throwing it to the batting end, threw it back to the bowling end. Bairstow was eagerly waiting for the ball so to have a chance of running the Australian out. But after seeing the ball going on the other way, he pulled off a fake fielding, in a symbol of collecting the ball and then trying to dislodge the bails, when in reality, he didn’t have it at all.

While the umpires couldn’t notice that, the commentators had a laugh over it on air and after seeing the replay on the big screen, Bairstow also flashed a mini embarrassing laugh.
