VIDEO | Steve Smith's ‘brain-fade’ moment gifts England an easy run-out

The Australian team won the toss and decided to bat on a wicket that seems to offer assistance to bowlers in the first innings. But they clearly justified the popular opinion as to why people thought that batting first should not be preferred by losing three of their best batsmen and getting themselves into a mess. The Kangaroos managed to continue from where they left off in the last match by losing wickets in a bunch. 

Just when the Kangaroos were looking to recover from the early departure, Steve Smith produced another ‘brain-fade’ moment by trying to steal a single from the inner circle fielder of England and got himself run out for 10 runs off 7 balls. After hitting the ball, Smith left his crease in time but was unable to make the crease as English skipper Eoin Morgan didn’t make a mistake and produced a direct hit. There was no run there, but Smith saw one anyway which was proved wrong in the end.

He was comfortably away from the crease and wasn’t any close to making it, further iterating the fact that the error in judgment of Smith was totally wrong. What makes it, even more, worse is that he was hitting the ball well and just had hit a six, but unexpectedly took a decision against the run of play. He could have been a pillar of Australian comeback from a horrific start, known for pulling off his team from worst situations. As it turned out, brain-fade only ensured that he walked back doing none of those.
