Twitter reacts to Virat Kohli’s tips going wrong as Chahal concedes four after getting skipper’s advice

What is the one thing you should not do as a bowler after bowling flawlessly for 23 balls in a T20 game? Get tips from Virat Kohli. That’s right, having bowled a perfect spell for 3.5 overs, conceding 14 runs and taking 3 wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal’s figures were ruined by some Kohli advice.

A captain’s advice can, at times, be magical for the bowler. The skipper could help solve a problem by giving clarity, might help in executing a plan by placing the field cleverly or otherwise could do wonders by just injecting confidence. Such is the power of words. There is no better master at this than MS Dhoni, who has basically made a career out of giving tips - be it for his own Indian teammates or even to other players whilst playing in the IPL. Virat Kohli, today in Dubai, tried replicating MSD by giving Chahal some ‘exclusive’ tips, but the RCB captain’s words, much in contrast to Dhoni, ended up being detrimental to the bowler.

Having bowled 23 perfect deliveries, conceding just 14 runs and taking the important wickets of Bairstow, Vijay Shankar and Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal looked primed to end his spell on a high note. But just as things were gliding along smoothly, with new-batsman Abhishek Sharma taking strike, the RCB skipper Kohli, for some reason, decided to pull the leg-spinner aside and give him some tips. What Kohli said, no one knows, but to the naked eye, it looked like he was asking Chahal to bowl a particular delivery to execute a masterstroke of sorts.

Long story short, that didn’t happen. As Chahal bowled a flighted full delivery, the youngster danced down the wicket and whacked the leg-spinner down the ground for a thumping boundary. Chahal ended up conceding a boundary and well, his figures also ended up getting ruined.

Moral of the story? Never get tips from Kohli, not at least prior to the last ball of your spell.

Kohli trying be Dhoni here! :P :P
