Moeen Ali stated that Joe Root's comment that 'Moeen chose to go home' was an honest mistake and the issue was sorted straight away that day. The English off-spinning all-rounder further added that some people make the statement bigger than what it was and he had no issues with that.

After Moeen Ali's brilliant performance in the second Test in Chennai, which was a rare silver lining for the English side in an otherwise disappointing performance, the team management gave him the option of staying back for the last two Tests as well, but the Warwickshire all-rounder, who according to the team's rest and rotate policy, deserved a break, decided to fly back to spend few days with the family.

In the press conference, Root stated that "Moeen chose to go home" and it created a lot of stir among English players and journalists, with Nasser Hussain stating that England threw Moeen under the bus. Root subsequently apologized to the veteran and admitted the same in the next press conference. Moeen Ali now revealed that it was a non-issue and they had sorted it out the same day.

"It was pretty much sorted straight away. Rooty messaged me and rang me straight away. I know him really well and it was an honest mistake. These things happen.

"For me, it was done straight away. I think some people can make it a bigger thing than it is. When you are involved it is not that big a deal, really."

Moeen will join the England squad ahead of the five-match T20I series that is slated to begin on March 12 in Ahmedabad. He was picked by Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League which means a longer stay till May end is not ruled out either.
