IND vs ENG 2022 | Zak Crawley must make most of his abilities before time runs out, reckons Nasser Hussain

Nasser Hussain is of the opinion that it is high time for Zak Crawley to make most of his abilities to cement his place in Test team after he was dismissed for 9 in the one-off Test against India. He further added that Crawley has been out of runs for a while and keeps getting out in the same way.

After having a dream home series against New Zealand, England are in trouble against India in the one-off Test. They are poised at 84/5 in response to India’s 416 in the first innings. The opening pair for England has been a cause of concern and Zak Crawley’s form has been one of the reasons for it. He was once again dismissed on a single-digit score in the match. Also, he had scores of 43, 9, 4, 0, 6, and 25 in the New Zealand series.

Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain believes that Zak Crawley should get his act together in time to continue to be a part of the Test squad.

"Crawley is in charge of his own career and you don't want to be that gifted lad that played some lovely shots, you want to be the gifted lad that made the most of your ability. Bairstow, for example, has been positive in his last three innings but not reckless, while there is a difference between opening and batting at No 5 in England. You would hope there is a little more in this coaching regime, where they say 'the percentages were against you today'," Hussain said on Sky Sports.

Crawley has scored 1174 Test runs at 26.68 and the team has tried various opening pairs because of the lack of runs at the top. Crawley was dismissed on delivery by Bumrah outside off as he edged it to the slips. Hussain said that runs are his currency and he should consistently score for the national team.

"You can't go back to the 90s where England kept chopping and changing. People feel more comfortable if they have the backing and have been given a long run but your only currency runs and he keeps getting out the same way. I think he is a real test of the McCullum and Stokes brand of cricket," he explained.
