IPL 2024 | Twitter amused as laughing Kohli's exaggerated leave against Ashwin sparks World T20 nostalgia

Every run counts in a game of cricket where even the minute margins could be the deciding factor of a contest. In a riveting battle of the Royals on Saturday, Virat Kohli managed to emulate Ashwin's genius move against the World T20 2022's star himself to extract an extra run in Jaipur .

Anticipating dew in the latter half of the contest, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis offered a good start to RCB, playing through the powerplay phase with 53 runs. However, a cheeky moment followed post the field restrictions where Kohli was seen emulating Ashwin from the 2022 T20 World Cup.

On the second ball of the seventh over, Ashwin fired a fuller delivery near the leg stump line that Kohli cleverly left by winding across the line. The flighted delivery would have hit his body if Kohli had not bent a tad towards the off stump, thereby extracting an extra out of the delivery. Ashwin had committed a similar act against Mohammad Nawaz during the India versus Pakistan clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the 2022 T20 World Cup, resulting in a famous win. Kohli was clearly reminded off the same as he broke out into a fit of laughter while looking at Ashwin after the umpire signalled wide.

The Twitterverse was amused about Kohli emulating an Ashwin genius against the 37-year-old himself.
