In a game of T20, small margins could be a deciding factor in a contest. A similar could have happened with the Punjab Kings before skipper Shikhar Dhawan redeemed himself for a denied review that could have got them Travis Head’s wicket on the first ball of the match in Mullanpur.

Winning the toss, the Punjab Kings chose to field first in the second game of their new home venue at Mullanpur. Seeing two left-handers open the batting for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dhawan opted for the right-arm pacer Kagiso Rabada. While there was a potential chance of dismissal in the first ball itself if not for a denied review, Dhawan managed to redeem himself with a brilliant catch moments later.

On the first ball of the match, Kagiso Rabada came over the wicket against Travis Head, spraying a back-of-a-length delivery across the left-hander. The ball zipped off the surface with the away shape, squaring up Head to kiss the outside edge of the bat to the wicketkeeper. Jitesh Sharma immediately appealed for a dismissal but the umpire and captain Dhawan weren’t convinced, and hence did not opt for the review. A few minutes later, the ultra edge showed that there was a faint nick, therefore offering a lifeline to the Aussie.

Just when Head was commanding positively following the survival, Arshdeep bowled a length delivery that seamed a shade around the off-stump line on the second ball of the fourth over. Head cleared the front leg to slog it over mid-off but did not quite get the timing on it. The ball skewed over the inner circle and Dhawan at mid-off sprinted a long way back judging the ball in the night sky to grab the ball with firm hands.

Seeing the Punjab captain redeem himself with a marvellous catch for a DRS chance, the Twitterverse joined in with their opinion.
