Partnerships are like a two-geared machine where the failure of one can lead to disaster. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s tag team was on the verge of suffering a similar failure due to the latter’s miscalculation leading to a clarification discussion between the two in the third session.

On the back of Travis Head’s dynamic 140 and Marnus Labuschagne's gritty fifty, Australia posted 337 runs on the board, earning a lead of 157 runs. In response, India lost KL Rahul early before Shubman Gill joined Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle against the pink rock under floodlights. As the pair tried to shift the balance to the Indian side, a running between the wicket mishap trembled Gill for some moment.

The first ball of the sixth over saw Pat Cummins come over the wicket and bowl a fuller than a length delivery at the leg peg. Gill called for a run after clipping it towards square leg but Jaiswal from the non-striker’s end yelled ‘no’ after leaving the crease. This caused a sudden pause between the two batters who were halfway through the pitch before deciding to cross over in haste before Mitchell Marsh got hold of the ball. Right after, Gill walked up to Jaiswal and mouthed "gap mai jaraha he aisa matt kar, mai sahi call karunga", (meaning: to trust Gill’s calls as he would look for runs when its in the gap). In response, the southpaw smoked back at his partner before taking guard, leaving the Twitterverse abuzz.
