BGT | Twitter reacts as Akash Deep's polite sledge turns Travis Head's frown into cheeky smile

The Land Down Under is known for sledging opponents into defeat and breaking their morales before the battle between bat and ball even begins. However, Akash Deep proved immune from such tactics when his politeness won over Travis Head and Alex Carey in a wholesome moment on Wednesday.

Indian tailenders continued to frustrate the Australians in the morning session of Day 5 at the Gabba as the last wicket pairing of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep survived four more overs to take their partnership to 47 before the visitors succumbed to 260 all-out. The crucial cameos from the duo had already proved clinical the previous evening in avoiding the follow-on, and their further resilience on Wednesday before rain arrived only furthered hope of the Men in Blue saving a lost Test match. The fact that Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the Test match with a calf injury only made things work for the Men from Down Under and forced captain Pat Cummins to hand the Kookaburra to Travis Head to ease the workload on the frontline bowlers. The part-time spinner took just five deliveries to end Akash Deep's memorable knock of 31 but the wicket only bookended a mini-saga brewing from the previous over.

Head was stationed at short leg when Lyon spun one into Akash who judged the line down leg appropriately and let the Kookaburra thump into his thigh. However, the red cherry ended up lodging itself into the flap of his left pad while innocuous appeals rang around. As one would, Akash removed the ball from his pads but failed to notice Head walking towards him with an extended hand asking for the ball. The Indian simply let the ball fall to the ground in front of Head which incensed the Aussie given how disrespectful the gesture looked. Nevertheless, Akash was not only quick to say sorry but also politely echoed the same sentiments to the wicket-keeper Alex Carey and the Oz duo could not help but break into sheepish smiles.

Twitterati, as always, was thoroughly entertained.

Few players show the knack of being as high on confidence as David Warner is when he comes out to bat, yet amusing circumstances saw the batter hilariously punishing himself. The opener's bat was left dangling by the handle in Hobart on Friday and the willow ensured it left a mark on the Oz legend.

Brute hitting is a thing in modern-day cricket where white-ball format produces some of the neatest strikers of the cricket ball. Daniel Sams personified such skill during Sydney Thunder’s season opener against the Adelaide Strikers at the SCG by smashing 31 runs off Lloyd Pope in the 19th over.
