AFG vs NZ | Twitter reacts as Farooqi delivers Afghan special first-up to send Allen's stump cartwheeling

No moment in the life of an elite sportsperson is as anticipated as the start of a World Cup and can often set the tone for the rest of the tournament. Finn Allen would be hoping that's not the case this time around after he was undone by a dreamy inswinger first-up by a charged-up Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Afghanistan's ascendancy in the world of cricket continued on Friday in Guyana. The side had whittled down New Zealand to 53/7 at the halfway stage of the second innings in a chase of 160 and found themselves within earshot of a major upset at the grand World Cup stage. Their upsurge in the second half all began with a brilliant spell by the threatening Fazalhaq Farooqi who needed just one delivery to instil fear into the Kiwis with a perfect inswinger.

Coming off a brilliant fifer in the opening game against Uganda, Fazalhaq sent a full delivery Finn Allen's way with hopes of extracting swing from the shiny new Kookaburra. The white rock obliged as it teasingly swayed in the air while Allen lined up a disdainful hoick towards the leg side. To complete the recipe of an unplayable delivery, the ball jagged in sharply after pitching and beat the bat all hands up to send the leg stump flying out of the ground.

Fazalhaq immediately wheeled away ecstatically while his teammates chased after him and a shocked Allen couldn't help but stand his ground for a few moments to soak in the brilliancy of what he had come up against. Twitterati echoed similar sentiments on social media.
