Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has hinted at the possibility of Australia orchestrating a narrow win against Scotland to eliminate defending champions England. However, this could result in a possible match ban for Mitchell Marsh if he is found guilty of intentionally manipulating the result.

After a thumping nine-wicket victory over Namibia in Antigua sealed a Super Eight spot for Australia, Hazlewood admitted England’s elimination would be in their “best interest”.

"In this tournament you potentially come up against England at some stage again. They're probably one of the top few teams on their day and we've had some real struggles against them in T20 cricket, so if we can get them out of the tournament that's in our best interest as well as probably everyone else,” expressed Hazlewood.

However, if the Australian team under the leadership of Mitch Marsh decides to play a strategic game against England, provided the Three Lions ensure a win against Oman and Namibia, the 32-year-old could be in real trouble of being suspended for a couple of matches. This could well fall against Article 2.11 of ICC’s code of conduct that related to "inappropriate strategic or tactical reasons… such as when a team deliberately loses a pool match in an ICC Event to affect the standings of other teams in that ICC Event."

Although it could be difficult for the match officials to point out an unfair tactic in play a drop in momentum from dominating state of play could go against the mighty Aussies.
