There’s a popular saying in cricket that “Catches win you matches”. While the outcome of the first Test is yet to be known, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s jaw-dropping catch to assist Jasprit Bumrah with the breakthrough was the perfect moment India needed to find momentum in the fourth innings in Chennai.

India posted a gigantic 515-run target on the back of double centurions - Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill on the third day. With more than seven sessions to play for, Bangladesh eyed to set the tone for an improbable chase away from home. Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam were successful in withstanding the Indian bowlers until Tea with 56 runs on board. The duo continued their hustle in the third session before India required a special effort from a special player to open up the game for the hosts.

After a fuller delivery resulted in a dot in the 17th over’s first ball, Bumrah pulled the length back and outside the stumps. The across the line angle worked well for the right-arm pacer as it lured Zakir into a forward drive, resulting in an outside edge straight towards the left-hand side of the gully. Jaiswal stationed beside the two slip fielders there, prowled to his left and snaffled the red cork in quick time to offer Bumrah the breakthrough. The fact that the reaction time was very short and the ball seemed to come off suddenly at the gully region, Jasiwal’s brilliance left the Twitterverse flooded with applause and Shubman Gill beside him stunned.
