‌The West Indies, opting to bat first, posted a competitive total of 308 in 47.4 overs. Keacy Carty led the charge with a fluent 103, supported by captain Shai Hope's 78 and Brandon King's 59. Despite a strong foundation, the visitors faltered in the death overs, losing their last five wickets for just 50 runs. England's bowlers, particularly Adil Rashid (4/63) and Saqib Mahmood (3/37), capitalized on the collapse to restrict the total.
England's chase began disastrously, with openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett dismissed for ducks, leaving the hosts at 2/2. Captain Harry Brook (47) and Root steadied the innings with a crucial 85-run partnership. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Root's resilience kept England in the hunt. His 159* off 136 balls, featuring 20 fours and 2 sixes, was instrumental in guiding England home. Lower-order contributions from Will Jacks (49) and Adil Rashid (10*) ensured England crossed the finish line with 14 balls to spare.
