Big Call! Australia Excludes Star Performer from Central Contract List
The Australian team has gone through some massive changes with the new central contract. Cricket Australia revealed its Central Contract for the 2026-27 cycle, but it missed out on a key player's name. And it was none other than their 2023 World Cup star, Glenn Maxwell.

Cricket Australia has finally given the names of players who are a part of the Central Contract for the 2026-27 season. And this time, the contract list had a major missing, as fans didn't see the name of a player who was a part of the same team for over a decade. This player is none other than the all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell.
Maxwell’s name has been excluded from the Central Contract list, coming as a major blow for the all-rounder. The central contract was brought down by the board on 1st April, and it has mainly focused on the Test players. For Glenn Maxwell, it should be noted that he has not been much active in the team's contention for red ball cricket.

Moreover, he is just a part of the Australian team in one format, T20Is. Maxwell announced his retirement from the ODI format last year, marking an end to his ODI journey. Since he is now playing just one format, the board took this tough decision to exclude him from the Central Contract.
Our Take
For the first time in 14 years, Glenn Maxwell has missed out on the Central Contract. It comes after he had a poor run in the T20 World Cup 2026 for the Australian team. Since this is also the only format he plays, it remains to be seen whether Australia sees him as a key player in the future series, or the T20 World Cup was the last he played.
Still, his contributions to the Australian team can never be forgotten. He was a key player for them in the 2023 World Cup, as he helped the team to reach the playoffs. Playing a double century knock against Afghanistan in a must-win game to even taking the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the finals, his role for Australian cricket will never be forgotten.
