Watch, SL vs NZ | Chameera special rattles Phillips’ timber to leave him shellshocked after dismissal
There is nothing worse than getting beaten for pace and Glenn Phillips was shell shocked during the T20 World Cup Super Eight game against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Pacer Dushmantha Chameera steamed through the New Zealand batter’s defence before rattling the timber to leave him in utter disbelief.
New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 61 runs in their Super Eight game to send the co-hosts out of the 2026 T20 World Cup in Colombo on Wednesday. After being put in to bat at the R Premadasa Stadium the Kiwis overcame a wobbling start to post 168/7, courtesy of valuable knocks from Rachin Ravindra (32) and skipper Mitchell Santner (47). Ravindra extended his good show with the bat in the second half too, registering career-best T20I figures of 4/27 as the home side could manage just 107/8 in return.
On a track that assisted spinners heavily and saw Maheesh Theekshana finishing as the island nation’s best bowler with figures of 3/30 in four overs, Dushmantha Chameera had his moments too. The pacer went through Glenn Phillips' defence with an absolute peach in the 10th over to leave him shellshocked.
Just as the batter was finding his feet on a difficult strip, Chameera bombarded a 145-case ripper that pitched on a good length outside off before seaming in viciously. Though Phillips brought his bat down while trying to force it to the on-side, he was a tad late as the ball had already passed through.
The outcome was predictable as the white rock crashed into the middle and leg stump to leave the batter in disbelief. He stood there for a moment, contemplating what had happened before quietly walking off the wicket, with a pumped up Chameera celebrating the dismissal with child-like enthusiasm.
That was special!
