Ashes | Twitter reacts as wasteful Stokes pays with embarrassment for blind trust on Root's opinions
If one of the greatest ever batters, fresh off a 160, asks you to do something how can one imagine ignoring it? Ben Stokes found himself in one such dilemma at the SCG when his predecessor Joe Root pressed him to opt for a review with confidence, a decision the England skipper would go on to regret.
England began Day 3 of the fifth Ashes Test at Sydney Cricket Ground in the ascendancy as Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue produced riveting early spells to keep Travis Head and night watchman Michael Neser on their toes. However, a wicket was still not forthcoming, and the desperation ultimately took a toll on the visitors leading to yet another wasteful decision fom two of their most senior counterparts.
On the final delivery of Tongue's first over for the day, Neser tried to drive at an almost-yorker outside off with aplomb but failed to succeed in his attempts even as the fielding side went up in a half-hearted appeal for caught behind with the bat razing the ground. Ben Stokes walked up to his charges for a discussion about the same with a scrunged face and shrugged soliders, indicating his mind was more or less already mode. However, before he could walk away, Joe Root suggested that Neser had hit the ball and seemed to be convinced he was out, even after Stokes inquired thrice for confirmation. Such is the standing the batting talisman enjoys in the dressing room that Stokes showed no hesitation in opting for the review despite his personal beliefs, only for Snicko to reveal there was no contact between bat and ball, just the red cherry and the deck as it skimmed under Tongue's bat.
It was the second review England had lost in the innings foolishly, and Twitterati made sure to let them know.
Unlucky!

Catching Woes
Total shocker from Will Jacks there. One of the massive gulfs in this series has been the quality of catching. The Aussies have taken worldies and England have dropped sitters. Painful.#Ashes

Simply Painful
Will Jacks should be removing himself off the pitch for that.

Disgraceful at this level
