The Big Bash League could sometimes even take an unexpected turn. And for the Pakistani players, the tournament has not been good when it comes to performances. Recently, Mohammed Rizwan was retired out in the 18th over of the innings for playing too slowly.

The Pakistani players have been able to put on a show full of entertainment in the BBL. Whether it was Shaheen Shah Afridi bowling waist height no balls, and eventually having his over taken away, or Babar Azam. Fans still remember the game where Babar tried to play a shot similar to Kohli's Shot of the Century to give his wicket.

However, another moment has now been added to this list. And this time, it is Mohammed Rizwan who must have felt the heat of the death overs and the team's coaching department also. Rizwan was retired out in the game, being called off by the captain of the team during the 18th over.

1. Rizwan’s Slow Play Gets Him Retired Out

Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder went against each other in the recent Big Bash League clash. Renegades were batting first in this game, and the openers were able to give a headstart to the team. Rizwan stepped in to bat at number four, when the team stood at the score of 83/2.

Wickets fell quickly from the other end, as Jake Fraser-McGurk played a fine knock of 19 runs off 9 balls and Caleb Jewell played just three balls. The partnership between Hassan Ali and Mohammed Rizwan started to settle, but the Renegades were still worried, due to the run rate.

Rizwan scored just 26 runs off 23 balls, and his scoring rate didn't increase even in the death overs. Following this, the captain of the team, Will Sutherland, decided to take a bold move. Sutherland called Rizwan off the field, and he was declared as retired out. The reason was his slow knock, as Rizwan was also seen disappointed with this decision.

In the 18th over of the game, Rizwan was still rotating strike and unable to find boundaries. Hassan Ali and Sam Elliott were able to score runs towards the last two overs. With 16 runs being scored in the final two overs of the game, Renegades finished with the score of 170.

Still, this target was not enough for the team to be defended. Sydney Thunder got the target of 140 to be chased in 15 overs (due to DLS), and the team once stood at 95/6 in 12.2 overs. With just a few balls left, Nic Maddinson and Chris Green took the center stage to lead the team to win the game on the last ball.

2. Rizwan's Horrific BBL Debut Season

Before the Big Bash League started, the hype for Mohammed Rizwan was real. All the Pakistani fans were excited that they will be able to see Rizwan play in one of the biggest T20 leagues. But Rizwan seems to be having a horrific debut in the Big Bash League, which might even make the team consider whether they should pick him in the next season or not.

Mohammed Rizwan in BBL:

  • Innings: 8
  • Not Out: 0
  • Runs: 167
  • Average: 20.87
  • Strike Rate: 101.82
  • 50s: 0
  • Best Score: 41

His debut game in the Big Bash League came as a disappointment for the Pakistani wicket-keeper. Melbourne Renegades scored 212 runs in 20 overs against Adelaide Heat. And out of this, Rizwan was able to score just 4 runs off 10 balls. Following this, he did a bit well in the game against Hobart Hurricanes, scoring 32 runs which came in losing cause.

This was followed by more cheap scores from Rizwan, as he got dismissed for 6 and 16 in the next two games. He played his best ever BBL knock against Melbourne Stars, which came in a winning cause. While chasing the target of 174, he scored 41 runs off 38 balls with just 4 fours. At this moment also, strike rate remained a concern for the Pakistani wicket-keeper.

In the last three games played by Rizwan for Melbourne Renegades, he has not even crossed the 30-run mark in any one of them. With him being retired out for 26 in the last game, it remains questionable whether the team will pick him for the next game or not.
