Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat UP Warriorz by nine wickets in the Women’s Premier League match in Navi Mumbai on Monday. Grace Harris’ whirlwind half-century made light work of the chase after Nadine de Klerk and Lauren Bell’s disciplined bowling display restricted the Warriorz to 143/5.

‌Grace Harris’ blitzkrieg helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru thrash UP Warriorz by nine wickets in the Women’s Premier League on Monday. The Australian all-rounder smoked 10 fours and five sixes during her 40-ball 85 to take the side to 145/1 with more than seven overs to spare after Nadine de Klerk and Lauren Bell restricted the Warriorz with some disciplined bowling.

After being put into bat at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, the Warriorz openers had an indifferent start before Harleen Deol was sent back by Lauren Bell in the fifth over. However, Phoebe Litchfield gave the side some momentum with three fours in the last two overs of the powerplay to take the side to 36/1 after six overs. But the Warriorz continued to lose wickets with captain Meg Lanning being dismissed by Shreyanka Patil in the first ball of the eighth over. Though the offie got hit for a six and a four, she struck back strongly with the key wicket of Litchfield in the last ball of the same over. And the UP-based outfit was in deep trouble with De Klerk starting her spell with two wickets in the first two balls, as they slid to 50/5 inside nine overs. However, Deepti Sharma and Deandra Dottin saved the side from further embarrassment with an unbeaten partnership of 93 for the sixth wicket in just 72 balls as they ended at a respectable 143/5. Though the pair could manage just one boundary in the first six overs of their association, they compensated for it with 52 runs in the last five overs. While Deepti had five fours and a six during her 35-ball 45, Dottin gave her company with 40 from 37 balls, a knock which included three fours and a six. Meanwhile, De Klerk was once again the pick among the RCB bowlers with a spell of 2/28 in four overs, with Shreyanka being expensive, giving away 50 runs for her two wickets and Lauren Bell picking up 1/16 in four overs.

In return, the opening duo of Harris and Smriti Mandhana came out all guns blazing, with the Australian batter welcoming Deepti with two boundaries in the first over. The RCB skipper was not to be left behind, scoring two fours off Shikha Pandey’s first two balls. The duo was making it a no-contest, sending the ball to all corners of the ground with their fabulous strokeplay. And Dottin experienced the heat of Harris’ blade as the big-hitter smashed three sixes and three fours to plunder 32 runs in a single over as the RCB ended the powerplay at a marauding 78/0. Though she completed her fifty, in just 22 balls, with her third six in the previous over, Harris was in no mood to slow down as she took on spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Asha Sobhana. Meanwhile, Mandhana also chipped in with boundaries on either side of the wicket as the team strolled past the 100-run mark in just the eighth over. The Warriorz bowlers finally had something to cheer for when Shikha Pandey dismissed Harris in the 12th over. But it was too late by then, as the side was only seven runs away before going past the target in the next over. Mandhana remained unbeaten on 47 from 32 balls, with nine boundaries in her innings.
