Dew has always played villain to fielding sides during evening games, and Nadine de Klerk understood that the hard way against UP Warriorz in the WPL. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder ended up shocking batter Deepti Sharma and her teammates with a tall beamer over the southpaw’s head.

‌Royal Challengers Bengaluru had the UP Warriorz reeling after putting them in during their Women’s Premier League match in Navi Mumbai on Monday. The Meg Lanning-led side were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 50/5 in only the ninth over.

However, the experienced pairing of Deepti Sharma and Deandra Dottin helped the side sail through rough waters without losing a wicket in the next six overs. After starting cautiously with just one boundary between overs nine and 14, Dottin finally took charge with a six and four in a 15-run over from Shreyanka Patil.

Captain Smriti Mandhana brought Nadine de Klerk back for the next over, in search of that elusive dismissal. But the South African all-rounder had a forgettable start to the over with a beamer that just went above Deepti’s head.

The bowler came from around the stumps to the left-hander before going off the radar and aiming for the moon. The Indian all-rounder was stunned as she quickly took evasive action, with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh collecting the ball chest high.

Deepti was not impressed as she raised her hand to show her displeasure at the bowler as Richa passed the ball with a sheepish smile. But the bowler was quick to apologise as she got the towel from the umpire to dry her hands in dewy conditions.

Even skipper Mandhana could not believe what she just saw, giving a perplexed look at the bowler. Twitter was stunned as the woman who turned everything she touched to gold made a crash landing with an awful delivery.
