Ravichandran Ashwin drew an unusual comparison between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Aakash Chopra. He stated the fact how Virender Sehwag’s batting made Aakash Chopra invisible. Later he compared it by saying that the same is happening with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin says Yashasvi Jaiswal might have had a problem rising to the occasion with young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Indian Premier League 2026.

Jaiswal scored 397 runs in 14 innings with a strike rate of 159.43. Ashwin said that he had more to come, knowing how much bigger he will come up to play this year from the Rajasthan Royals. However, Sooryavanshi's ascent and impressive performances can prove to be a consequence for Jaiswal, says Ashwin, which could have made him uneasy and less confident at the crease.

The veteran spinner made the comparison with the popular Test opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra. Sehwag's batting was very explosive and sometimes overpowered the efforts of Chopra, but Chopra played valuable knocks and started the majority of the time strongly, Ashwin said.

A similar situation might have occurred at Rajasthan Royals, where Sooryavanshi thrived on his strokeplay, attracting the lion's share of the spotlight along the way. But Ashwin also suggested that Jaiswal still has a valuable contribution for the country, in spite of failing to have a strong season like everyone had hoped.

Our Take

The comparison made on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Aakash Chopra is somehow true. With this, we can conclude the fact that he has elite knowledge. While Jaiswal has done well for Rajasthan Royals, his performances have been outclassed by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to a great extent.
