A club from Madrid is guaranteed to be in the final of this year’s UEFA Champions League after Juventus were drawn against Monaco in the semi-finals of the competitions which meant that Real Madrid will face off against cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid in the other semi-final.

After facing each other in the finals of the Champions League in 2014 and 2016, Real Madrid will face once again play arch-rivals Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of this year’s competition. Real beat Bayern Munich 6-4 on aggregate in a controversial game that saw Cristiano Ronaldo score a hat-trick in the second leg.

Meanwhile, Juventus will come up against Monaco after blanking Barcelona 3-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. However, Monaco themselves are no pushovers as they showed in their 6-3 aggregate victory in the quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid ended Leicester City's 2-year fairy tale by beating them 2-1 over 2 legs to make it to their 3rd semi-finals in 4 years. The first leg of the semi-finals will take place on 3rd and 4th May with the second leg a week later.

Real Madrid are looking to become the first side to retain the Champions League since the current format was introduced in 1992.
