Arsenal celebrated Arsene Wenger’s 21st anniversary at the club with a convincing 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates. Meanwhile, Liverpool's struggles continued as Philippe Coutinho's opener was cancelled out by Joselu to bring an end to a torrid month for the Merseyside club.

Arsenal 2 - 0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Monreal and Iwobi scored on either side of the half-time interval to help Arsenal extend their winning run to four consecutive games in all competitions.

Monreal was the first to get his name on the scoresheet when he was able to find the back of the net through a host of players in a crowded penalty area after Brighton had failed to clear a free-kick. Arsenal scored their second of the game after the when a slick passing move on the counter-attack was brilliantly finished off by Alex Iwobi.

The win ensures that the Gunners have recovered from the dark days of August when they lost to Stoke City and Liverpool and now they are only a point behind north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United 1 - 1 Liverpool

Philippe Coutinho's superb opening goal in the 29th minute failed to earn three points for Liverpool as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United at St James' Park. Coutinho picked up the ball at the edge of the 18-yard-box and curled a fine strike into the top corner, at the near post, to put Liverpool on the top of the game. However, the lead lasted for only seven minutes with Joselu equalizing for Newcastle after Joel Matip's tackle sent the ball in off his leg. The Joselu strike was the ninth goal Liverpool have conceded in their last four league outings which matches the total they shipped in their previous 12 games combined.

Liverpool have won only one of their last seven games and, with a rampant Manchester United and Tottenham awaiting them after the international break, the Reds could find themselves under tremendous pressure by the end of this month.
