Former Paris Saint-Germain star Dani Alves is set to sign for boyhood club Sao Paulo on a free transfer this summer. The 36-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham all interested, but he opted to sign for Sao Paulo instead.

After less than a month of free agency, former Paris Saint-Germain star Dani Alves has joined boyhood club Sao Paulo, Sky Sports reports. The 36-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, but it seems that Sao Paulo’s offer of a three-year contract was more than enough to convince Alves to make the move back home.

A target for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and even Tottenham, joining the club he supported as a boy was a deal too good to turn down for the Brazilian. “Now, in 2019 I could have picked anywhere to play but I chose to return to Brazil,” Alves revealed. “For my country. For my people. For the club of my heart."

The former Barcelona and Juventus full-back had already revealed that he wouldn’t be extending his stay at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season. "Today I close another cycle in my life, a cycle of victory, learning and experiences," Alves wrote on Instagram "I would like to thank the PSG family for the opportunity to together build a page in the history of this club.

"It was two years of resilience and continuous reinventing to fulfil my mission, but in life everything has a beginning, a middle and an end and now the time has come to put that final point here."

He leaves PSG after winning the Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup twice, the French Cup and the French League Cup once, to take his total to 40 career trophies, more than any other player in world football.
